Both women and men are equally often occupied in senior positions of companies in the largest Latvian cities

Company Lursoft has carried out a survey to find out how active Latvian women are involved in business and what are the most common stereotypes, which face women in the business environment.
Data show that over the past five years the proportion of women among officials has decreased by 5.8%, while the number of women who founded their own companies increased (+2.46%).
Analyzing the situation in Latvian cities, it is interesting to mention that women who live in the capital are involved in business less than women in other cities, but compared the data in major cities with the data of overall performance in Latvia, it is concluded that women who live in cities living occupy high-ranking positions significantly more often than women who live in rural districts.
The key conclusion – it is a mistaken public viewpoint, that the most senior positions in companies are held by men in Latvia - Lursoft data indicate that both women and men equally occupy high positions.

LIDERE remains active in the work of SME Platform of Employers’ Confederation of Latvia

09.08.2011. – SME Platform meeting was held and following issues were addressed – changes in micro-enterprise tax law and introduction of actions of Small Business Act in Latvia.
Astra Kaďâne, representative of Ministry of Finance, Ilze Lore and Evita Breča, representatives of Ministry of Economics and Vera Boroňenko, researcher from Daugavpils University participated in the meeting and gave their opinion on respective issues.
The representative from Ministry of Finance reported that companies have chosen the micro-enterprise tax rate more than expected, while tax income is lower than expected. Now it is understandable that the Ministry of Finances will encourage changes in micro-enterprise tax law to make it more comprehensible and easier to use.
It was agreed that in late August / early September the Ministry of Finance will hold discussions with social partners on possible changes in the law. Preliminary plan provides that changes should be clear by 15.12.2011. and law changes could take effect by 01.12.2012.
As for the second issue - participants of the meeting had got a chance to meet with Vera Borovenko. She represented preliminary results of research (financed by EC) on introduction of actions of Small Business Act in Latvia. The results show that state aid to companies is a declarative, but measures, which might be reasonably used, are missing. Public bodies and businesses are not social partners, but rather – opponents.
While representatives from Ministry of Economics expressed their recognition that there is a lack of opinion from entrepreneurs on what they need and which of activities do not work.
It was agreed that by mid-September the entrepreneur could give their advices and opinion on expected support both national and EU level. SME Platform is ready to collect these opinions and core members of SME platform are ready to participate in meetings with representatives of responsible ministries.
Aiva Vîksna, the Chairperson of the Board and Zanda Raciborska, Project Co-ordinator represented association LIDERE in this meeting.
Venue and time – at Employers’ Confederation of Latvia, Baznicas Str. 25-3, Riga 11:30.

Therefore, each year the exploration “Women in Entrepreneurship” was conducted, the project “LET’S EXCHANGE EXPERIENCE” was realised, several conferences for entrepreneurs were organised and bulletin for Latvian women entrepreneurs “LIDERE” was issued.
This is the main reason why six years ago “LIDERE” has started to realise mentoring programmes for entrepreneurs. During these five years “LIDERE” has carried out 12 mentoring programmes with a total number of participants - 299: 143 mentors and 156 mentees (256 women and 43 men). Acting in the programme, many new entrepreneurs have acquired new ideas, partners and understand how important it is to be together and to co-operate.
LIDERE does not stop at the achieved and is ready to do a lot more for support of micro and small entrepreneurs in Latvia. To attract and give confidence to start their own business, LIDERE is going to implement at least one mentoring program for entrepreneurs in the year. LIDERE has already successfull co-operation with Nordea bank - Nordea Business School “From idea to an investor" and with Mortgage Bank of Latvia in the framework of project “JUMP INTO BUSINESS” to support newly started entrepreneurs.
LIDERE is also one of the organisations that responded to Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK) proposal to establish Small and Medium Entrepreneurs’ (SMEs) Co-operation Platform and it is one of active members of this Platform.
